Kenny Mehler Strips Down - CD REVIEW - JUNE 2008:

“Stripped down,” is a phrase that may make you think of middle aged men ogling girls half their ages while stuffing dollar bills into their g-strings. However, “stripped down, straight forward rock, with pop reggae undertones,” perfectly describes Kenny Mehler’s debut album, “Now.” Kenny’s new album will be released on Subciety/Universal Records in early August. Writing most of the songs featured on “Now” in Playa Del Carmen, Mexico, gave Kenny’s music a crisp warm sound and feel that mimics his sunny surroundings. The album incorporates rock, blues, and a fun reggae texture that is ready to surf the radio waves from the first note. Taking cues from Jack Johnson, Rob Thomas, and fellow Connecticut native John Mayer, “Now” is filled to the brim with energetic guitar riffs, catchy choruses, and melodic harmonies.

In my opinion, the first single from the album should be the compelling and dynamic effort, ‘Drive.’ This song accelerates into a pure rock sound with a chorus that will motivate you to take a road trip with some friends. Mehler’s “Now” has something for everyone. Enclosed within the ten artfully crafted tracks is the soulful ballad, ‘Till We Meet Again,’ the fun and funky party song, ‘8th and 10,’ and the pop packed narrative with a touch of country, ‘Moses Brown.’ Kenny’s first album, “NOW,” is sure to make a lasting impression on anyone within earshot of its lively, charismatic chords and unforgettable hooks.
